Who we are: We're a lot more than high volume institutional food.

Campus Center Hotel RoomAuxiliary Services runs the hotel, conference services, the dining commons, retail food operations in the Campus Center and a full service bakery that does very high end work. Last year we served three million meals, catered 9,000 events and fed the Chancellor and his guests exquisite meals.

What we offer: We offer co-ops and paid internships in a variety of positions on campus.

These give you a range of learning experiences in a diversity of contexts at a level of convenience and with management support that you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

What we want: You are training to be management. When you are in management the right attitude is key. We believe that part of getting the right attitude is doing hard work for longer than you'd like.

Before we will give you jobs with lots of responsibility we want you to work at the bottom of the organization. If you haven't already, we will help you get that necessary experience. Other than that, we expect you to be a responsible employee, to be respectful of those around you, to make suggestions, and to ask lots and lots of questions.

Getting Supervisory Experience: We don't believe that book-smarts is enough to justify supervisory responsibility.

We promote people based on merit. If you have done well before or do well with us, then you will have a good shot at supervising other employees. We promise to offer you the opportunity to show us that you deserve to lead.

Mentoring: The managers who host interns do so because they want you there.

Student at Dining HallThey expect you to notice what is going on around you, they enjoy sharing what they know, and they want you to ask questions. To make this work you need to take some initiative: keep a journal and set up a regular meeting where you can talk about your experience and our operation. Our Hotel, our Executive Chef, our Catering Department and our Bakery, in particular, are interested in hosting and working with interns and co-op students from HTM.

Job rotation: We are a large diverse organization. We can put you in quite a number of different work environments.

You can do everything from cleaning rooms in the hotel to organizing a reception at the Chancellors' house. The more and more different things you do, the better it will be for you when you graduate. We are bigger and more diverse than any organization you can work with while attending UMass. We will work with you to map out where you want to work while you are here.

Pay: We pay market rate for co-op student employees. Internships are arranged on a case by case basis.

We employ more than a thousand students during the academic year and about one hundred during the summer. The ones we value most are those, like you, who care about their work. If you are interested in an internship or co-op position with us, contact in Human Resources.
